Biography
Julia Favaro is a MSc student in Physics at the University of Pisa (Italy). Her studies focus on multi-messenger astrophysics, mainly particle physics and high-energy astrophysical gamma-ray sources, as well as the state-of-the-art in gravitational-wave detection.
Growing up in Pisa, a city deeply rooted in scientific history, Julia was always fascinated by scientific inquiry. While her high school environment focused on the humanities, philosophy, and ancient literature, her interest in interdisciplinary thinking deepened, leading her to pursue physics at the University of Pisa to embrace her scientific captivation.
In December 2023, she earned her BSc degree with stellar grades and won the “More women in science” scholarship by the INFN – National Institute of Nuclear Physics of Italy.
Fascinated by experimental physics and astronomy, Julia is now completing her Master’s Degree, attending conferences, and participating in international summer school programs.
Her more creative side shines in her extracurricular activities and part-time job at the European Gravitational Wave Observatory. After many years of theatre and debate classes, she finds herself at ease speaking in front of a crowd. She regularly conducts guided tours of the Virgo experimental facility for students and the general public, translating complex scientific concepts into accessible narratives. Finally, Julia regularly volunteers at the Italian Association of Physics Students (AISF), contributing to the organization and fundraising of student-led conferences and outreach initiatives.
Julia aims to pursue a Ph.D. in Physics while fostering a strong connection between her future research and public engagement initiatives.
